Passive HD Video Balun 4 Pairs 16.5cm

This passive video balun set converts BNC male signals to RJ45 female connections for transmitting HD CCTV video and DC power over standard UTP Cat5 or Cat6 cable. It supports HD-CVI, TVI, AHD and CVBS formats at resolutions from 720P up to 8MP. The kit includes four pairs of adapters with integrated 5.5 x 2.1mm DC power jacks for camera power delivery.

Installation Notes and Common Issues

Installation uses standard Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6 cable with the HD568B wiring standard; both camera and DVR ends must use the same colour code to avoid damaging equipment. The RJ45 connectors are not waterproof, so the units are for indoor use only. Power voltage drop limits 12V DC at 1 Amp to 27 metres; longer runs require 14V to 48V DC supply. Anti-thunder protection is rated at level 3 with ESD contact and air discharge rated at level 3 per IEC61000-4-2.

Suitability and Limitations

This suits installers extending analogue HD CCTV cameras up to 300 metres for 720P or 960P, or 200 metres for 1080P to 8MP resolutions, while sending 12V to 48V DC power over the same cable. It is not for IP digital cameras or NVR systems, and cannot be used where outdoor-rated or waterproof connections are required. Builders needing PoE or pure data networking should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the balun is transmitting video correctly after connecting it to my 1080P camera?

Check that the LED indicator on the DC power connector lights up and the DVR displays a clear 1080P image without distortion at up to 200 metres over CAT6.

What comes in the box and which cables must I supply myself?

The package contains four pairs of 16.5 cm BNC male to RJ45 female baluns with 5.5 x 2.1 mm DC power pigtails; you must provide CAT5, CAT5E or CAT6 UTP cable for the runs.

Which resolution and distance combination should I choose for my 8MP cameras?

For 8MP (4K) cameras the maximum reliable video distance is 200 metres (656 ft) over CAT6; DC power can also reach 200 metres if the supply voltage is raised to 14–48 V to offset voltage drop.
