Converts a motherboard USB 3.0 header to a USB 3.1 Type-E front-panel connector, two-pack
This two-pack adapter converts a motherboard USB 3.0 19-pin or 20-pin header into a USB 3.1 Type-E front-panel socket. It targets builders whose chassis includes a USB 3.1 Type-C or Type-A port but whose board lacks a native USB 3.1 header. The compact overmolded design plugs directly into the existing header without extra cables or brackets. It suits desktop PC builds and case-mod projects needing front-panel USB 3.1 connectivity.
The adapter passes through the motherboard USB 3.0 header’s two lanes, delivering up to 5 Gbit/s bandwidth to the front-panel port. Under continuous file transfers the link remains limited by the source header’s 3.0 specification, so throughput does not exceed 5 Gbit/s. No active circuitry or external power is involved, so thermal throttling or signal degradation from the adapter itself does not occur. Performance mirrors the host header’s sustained capability.
This replaces the need for a motherboard with a native USB 3.1 header when a case already provides a Type-E front-panel connector. The jump is worth it for AM4 or LGA 2066 platforms that omit the newer header while the builder wants front USB 3.1 Type-C or Type-A access. It does not help builders who lack a spare USB 3.0 header or who require USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 speeds beyond 5 Gbit/s.

The passive adapter has no active circuitry, so it adds no measurable heat or power draw beyond what the motherboard header already supplies.
A standard USB 3.0 19/20-pin internal header is required; the adapter plugs directly into that header and needs no extra cables or power connections.
No, the adapter converts a motherboard USB 3.0 header to a USB 3.1 Type-E header, so the case must already have a USB 3.1 front-panel connector to make use of it.
