Connects 1.8" and 2.5" SATA drives via USB 3.0 with an extra power cable, supporting hot-swapping and 5Gb/sec transfer rates
This adapter connects a 2.5" or 1.8" SATA hard drive to a USB 3.0 port for data access and recovery. It includes a SATA to Micro SATA PCBA and an extra USB power cable to supply the drive. The package contains the adapter cable and the converter board only; the hard disk is not included.
The Super-Speed USB 3.0 interface offers a maximum transfer rate of 5Gb/sec and is backward compatible with USB 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 ports. The adapter complies with Serial ATA Specification Revision 2.6 and supports SATA hard disks down to 1.5G b/s speeds. Hot-swapping and plug-and-play functions are supported for convenient drive changes.
The adapter handles 2.5" and 1.8" Mass Storage Class drives within the bandwidth limits of the USB 3.0 and SATA 2.6 standards. It runs out of headroom when used with drives or controllers requiring newer SATA revisions or faster signalling rates than those specified. Supported operating systems include Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, Server 2003 and Server 2008 in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions with latest Service Packs.

Use the USB 3.0 to SATA 22Pin cable for a standard 2.5" SATA drive. The SATA to Micro SATA PCBA is only needed for 1.8" Micro SATA drives.
The 5Gb/sec is the USB 3.0 interface ceiling. Actual throughput will be limited by the SATA 1.5G b/s drive speed and system overhead.
No. The adapter is backward compatible with SATA 1.5G b/s. A SATA 2.6 drive will run at its own 1.5G b/s limit on this adapter.
