Adapter board lets a Compute Module 4 replace a CM3 or CM3+ on existing carrier boards, adding a quad-core Cortex-A72 64-bit processor
This modular adapter lets a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 plug into an existing CM3 baseboard. It provides a standard CM4 connector and a SODIMM edge that matches the CM3 form factor. An onboard buck-boost regulator accepts 3.3 V or 5 V input. Status LEDs show CM4 activity at a glance.
Engineers with CM3 carrier boards who need the 64-bit Cortex-A72 performance of a CM4 can use this board without redesigning their hardware. It is not for projects that must stay on the original CM3 silicon, nor for designs that lack a CM3-compatible SODIMM socket. Buyers who need a CM4 module included should look elsewhere.
The adapter carries a standard CM4 receptacle and a matching CM3 SODIMM footprint. A DC buck-boost chip handles 3.3 V and 5 V supply rails. The CM4 module itself is not supplied.

The onboard standard CM4 connector accepts any CM4 Lite or eMMC board, so choose the memory size and wireless option that matches your project.
Moving to the CM4's 64-bit 72-core architecture provides a significant compute boost for multi-threaded workloads and modern 64-bit OS images.
It accepts either 3.3V or 5V supply rails, letting you power the adapter from the same rail used by your existing CM3 base board.
