8-Port Gigabit Switch for Small Networks

The Wavlink WL-NW908G1 is an unmanaged desktop switch with eight 10/100/1000M adaptive RJ45 ports. It connects computers, printers and other wired devices in homes or small offices without any configuration. The sturdy metal case provides silent, fanless heat dissipation for continuous operation. Auto MDI/MDIX removes the need for crossover cables.

Practical Limits of Unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet

Each port negotiates at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps and supports IEEE 802.3x flow control in full-duplex mode with backpressure for half-duplex. The switch forwards frames using MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging, so there is no VLAN, QoS or port management available. Jumbo frames up to 9K are accepted, improving efficiency on large transfers. Total switching capacity is 16Gbps.

Capacity and Headroom for Everyday Loads

The 16Gbps fabric allows all eight ports to run at full gigabit speed simultaneously without internal blocking. It comfortably handles file sharing, streaming and general office traffic across multiple devices. The switch runs out of headroom when aggregate throughput exceeds 16Gbps or when managed features such as link aggregation or traffic prioritisation are required.
