Dual-band AC1200 range extender

The Wavlink WN575A3 plugs into a wall outlet to extend an existing wireless network across 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands. It supports repeater, access point and router modes so it can fill dead zones, create a new hotspot or serve as a primary router for small spaces. Four external 3dBi antennas provide omnidirectional coverage up to 100 metres indoors.

Fast Ethernet backhaul limit

The single 10/100 Mbps LAN and WAN ports cap any wired backhaul or client connection at 100 Mbps, well below the 867 Mbps 5 GHz and 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz PHY rates. This means wired devices and the uplink to the main router cannot saturate the wireless link, so throughput over Ethernet tops out at Fast Ethernet speeds.

1200 Mbps aggregate wireless capacity

The radio delivers a combined 1200 Mbps split as 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, suitable for web browsing, email and HD streaming on multiple devices. It runs out of headroom with 4K streaming, large file transfers or many simultaneous clients because the 100 Mbps Ethernet ports and half-duplex Wi-Fi overhead become bottlenecks.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2.4 GHz band at 300Mbps or the 5.0 GHz band at 867Mbps for my devices?

Use 5.0 GHz at 867Mbps for nearby devices that need higher throughput; use 2.4 GHz at 300Mbps for devices farther away or behind walls where range matters more.

What does the AC1200 label mean for actual throughput on my laptop?

AC1200 is the combined theoretical maximum of both bands; a single device connects to one band at a time, so real-world speed will be up to 867Mbps on 5.0 GHz or 300Mbps on 2.4 GHz, reduced by overhead and distance.

Will the 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports limit my wired connections?

Yes, each port caps at 100Mbps full duplex, so wired devices cannot exceed that rate even though the wireless side can reach 867Mbps on 5.0 GHz.
