Cable type and target installer

WELTRON Category 6 solid shielded cable comes in a 1000 ft red pull box with bare-wire ends on both sides. It is made for installers running permanent links through walls, ceilings or conduit where CMR-rated jacket is required by building code. The solid conductors keep attenuation low over long horizontal runs.

Who should choose it and who should not

This suits contractors and IT teams terminating patch panels, keystone jacks or wall plates in commercial or residential structured wiring. It does not suit anyone needing pre-terminated patch cords for rack-to-rack or desktop connections, nor installers who require plenum-rated CMP cable for air-handling spaces.

Deciding specification

The cable is rated to 550 MHz bandwidth, which is the single figure that determines whether the link will meet the performance margin your project specifies for Category 6 channels.

Questions about this item

What conduit size fits a 1000 ft Cat6 solid shielded cable reel?

A 1000 ft Cat6 solid shielded reel typically requires at least a 1-inch conduit to accommodate the FTP jacket and pulling tension without exceeding fill ratios.

Which termination step is most often missed when installing solid shielded Cat6 cable?

The drain wire must be bonded to the shielded jack or patch panel ground lug; skipping this step leaves the FTP shield floating and defeats alien-crosstalk protection at 550 MHz.

When should the cable be re-certified after installation?

Re-test with a Cat6-qualified certifier after any re-termination, physical damage, or if the channel is moved to 10 GbE service, since solid conductors can develop micro-fractures over time.
