Enterprise 2.5" SATA drive

The Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD6000BLHX is a new 600GB 10000 RPM hard drive with a 32MB cache and a SATA 6.0Gb/s interface. Its 2.5-inch form factor measures 15mm in height, 69.85mm in width, and 100mm in length. The manufacturer highlights a 15% speed improvement over the previous generation.

Suits high-performance laptops and workstations

This drive suits users who need maximum mechanical drive speed in a 2.5-inch bay and can accommodate the 15mm z-height. Buyers whose systems only accept standard 7mm drives cannot use this unit. It is also not for buyers who want the lower latency or silent operation of solid-state storage.

The 15mm z-height decides fit

The single specification that determines compatibility is the 15mm drive height. Verify that your laptop or drive cage explicitly supports 15mm 2.5-inch drives before purchase, as many modern ultrabooks and compact systems only accept thinner 7mm models.
