Enclosure for line protection

The Wiegmann BN4161406CH is a carbon-steel enclosure rated NEMA 4, 12 and 13 for indoor and outdoor line-protection duty. It measures 16.0 in high, 14.0 in wide and 6.0 in deep with a usable opening depth of 5.88 in. The hinged solid cover seals with a neoprene gasket and screw-down clamps, while external mounting plates simplify wall installation. It suits installers who need a compact, rugged housing for bus plugs or similar devices.

NEMA and IP rating limits

The enclosure meets NEMA 4, 12 and 13 plus IP66, so it resists falling dirt, circulating dust, water spray, hose-directed water and oil or coolant seepage. It is not rated for submersion, prolonged immersion or direct high-pressure washdown beyond the IP66 test parameters. The ANSI 61 powder-coated finish adds corrosion resistance, but the carbon-steel body is not stainless steel, so aggressive chemical environments may require a different material. Buyers who need a higher ingress rating or a stainless-steel construction cannot use this model.

Installation notes and common issues

Wall mounting uses the external plates; the 14/16 gauge metal is stiff, so pre-drill holes to avoid distorting the flange. The interior panel 3A930 fits the usable depth, but components taller than 5.88 in will foul the cover. The screw-down clamps need even torque to compress the neoprene gasket uniformly — uneven tightening creates leak paths. Installers who skip gasket inspection or over-tighten one corner often find water ingress at the opposite side.
