Dual-Xeon Server Board with Ten SATA Ports

This motherboard accepts two Intel Xeon processors in LGA 2011-v3 sockets and provides eight DDR4 DIMM slots supporting up to 256 GB of memory. Dual onboard Gigabit Ethernet ports and an integrated VGA controller handle networking and basic display output. Ten SATA 3.0 connectors and an M.2 slot for NVMe drives give plenty of internal storage options for multi-drive arrays.

Storage Limits of the SATA 3.0 Interface

Each of the ten SATA 3.0 ports tops out at 6 Gb/s, so mechanical drives will saturate well below that ceiling while modern SSDs hit the interface bottleneck. The single M.2 NVMe slot bypasses the SATA limit but shares bandwidth with the chipset, so simultaneous heavy traffic on both paths can contend. Builders needing more than ten SATA devices or multiple NVMe drives must add controller cards.

Questions about this item

Should I populate all eight DDR4 slots or can I run with fewer modules?

The board supports up to 256GB across eight DDR4 DIMM slots; you can install fewer modules and add more later as long as each CPU has matched channels.

What does the 10 SATA 3.0 ports mean for my storage build?

Ten SATA 3.0 ports let you connect up to ten hard drives or SATA SSDs directly, useful for large RAID arrays or backup volumes without extra controllers.
