ROS AI Robot Kit for Raspberry Pi 4B

The Yahboom Transbot Ver.II is a programmable educational robot kit designed for ROS development. It targets students, hobbyists and researchers who want hands-on experience with robotic arm control, mapping and AI functions. The kit ships without a Raspberry Pi 4B, which must be supplied separately.

Sustained mapping and navigation workloads

The Silan A1 lidar performs continuous 2D plane scanning to build and update maps during extended sessions. ROS toolboxes including Rviz, MoveIt and Qt handle joint control of the 3-DOF manipulator and real-time path planning. Onboard processing runs fixed-point navigation, obstacle avoidance and visual recognition tasks without relying on short-burst performance.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The crawler chassis dissipates heat passively during typical indoor operation. Motor and servo noise remains at a low level suitable for classroom or lab environments. Power is drawn from the user-provided Raspberry Pi 4B and the robot's own battery system; no external high-wattage supply is required for standard ROS and AI workloads.

Questions about this item

How loud is the Transbot when its motors, Lidar and robotic arm run continuously for hours?

The kit uses a Silan A1 2D Lidar and a 3-DOF manipulator driven by standard hobby servos; typical sound is a moderate whir from the tracks and servo buzz, comparable to a small desktop robot.

What separate hardware must I already own to make this Ver.II kit functional?

The box excludes the Raspberry Pi 4B itself; you must supply a Pi 4B board, a micro-SD card for the Yahboom ROS image, and a 5 V power source capable of several amps.

Will the Transbot's ROS stack and Lidar mapping work if I keep using an older Raspberry Pi 3B I already have?

The supplied Yahboom ROS image and Silan A1 driver target the Pi 4B's ARMv8 architecture; a Pi 3B will not boot the provided image and lacks the CPU performance for real-time 2D mapping.
