Three-microphone array for field recording

The Zoom H2essential Handy Recorder captures audio with three internal microphones arranged for mid-side stereo pickup. Front and rear cardioid capsules work alongside a bidirectional side-facing capsule to provide flexible directional recording. Users can select 90° or 120° stereo patterns or a mono setting for focused capture. The bundle adds a tabletop tripod, 32GB memory card, charger and four AA NiMH batteries for immediate use.

Powered by AA cells with headphone monitoring

Four rechargeable NiMH AA batteries supplied in the Watson 4-bay charger keep the recorder running during extended sessions. A 3.5mm stereo mini jack provides line or headphone output for real-time monitoring. The built-in speaker allows quick playback without extra gear. The 1.3-inch colour LCD shows levels and menu items clearly in varied lighting conditions.

32-bit float recording removes gain setup

The recorder writes 32-bit float files to the included SanDisk 32GB microSDHC card, eliminating the need to set input gain before recording. A 3.5mm external mic/line input expands source options beyond the internal capsules. Low-cut filter and accessibility features support cleaner capture and easier operation. The Oben TT-610B aluminum tripod stabilises the unit on flat surfaces for stationary recording.

Questions about this item

How do I mount the H2essential on the Oben TT-610B tabletop tripod, and what step do people often miss?

Screw the recorder onto the tripod's mounting plate, then tighten the locking knob until the unit cannot rotate; the step often missed is checking that the microphones face the intended sound source before recording.

What will need replacement first during long-term use of this bundle?

The four AA NiMH rechargeable batteries will lose capacity after hundreds of charge cycles and should be swapped for fresh cells when runtime drops noticeably.

At what pickup angle does the recorder capture the widest stereo image, and when does that become a limitation?

The 120° stereo pattern gives the widest image; under sustained use it also admits the most ambient noise, which can mask quiet sources in noisy environments.
