Match the model and generation, not just the screen size

Cases are cut for one model. Different generations of the same reader can have different dimensions, button positions and port or camera cutouts, and the same applies to Kindle and Kobo readers and to tablets in sizes such as 11 inches or 12 inches. Read the title for the exact device and generation, then compare it with the model number on the back of your device. A case for the wrong generation can block a button or leave the port covered.

Folio, stand, keyboard or protector: what the cover should do

A flip folio protects the screen and folds into a stand, and many have a magnetic closure that wakes the device when opened. Book covers with a keyboard turn a tablet into a laptop-style tool, so check how the keyboard connects and whether it has a trackpad. Screen protectors come as tempered glass or film, clear or anti-reflective, and matte finishes cut glare but soften the picture slightly. An e-ink reader gains from a light cover, since low weight is part of the appeal.

Styluses and pen holders are model-specific too: the pen for one tablet generation may not pair with another. Check the compatible-with line for each accessory, and read the in-the-box details, because some cases come with a pair of glass protectors while others include only the cover itself. A keyboard cover also needs the exact model, since the connector and layout are cut for it.

Questions about E-Reader and Tablet Cases

How do I find my e-reader or tablet generation?
Look in the device settings under About or Device Info for the model, or find the model number printed on the back or on the original box. Match it to the generation named in the case title, not just the screen size.
Will a magnetic cover wake and sleep my e-reader?
Many folio covers have a magnet that triggers sleep and wake, but the feature depends on the cover and the reader supporting it. Check that the listing mentions auto sleep and wake before relying on it.
Is a glass or film screen protector better?
Tempered glass feels like the original screen and resists scratches, but it is thicker. Film is thinner and flexible, and some types add an anti-glare finish. On e-ink readers, a matte film cuts reflections.
