General-purpose masking tape for everyday tasks

3M 201+ General Use Masking Tape is a tan crepe paper tape designed for holding, bundling, sealing and non-critical masking jobs. The rubber adhesive forms a strong bond with surfaces upon removal. It suits workshops, offices and general utility work where a reliable pressure-sensitive tape is required.

Easy-tear design and sliver resistance

The tape tears cleanly by hand for quick handling during application. Its construction resists slivering, which helps ensure the tape comes off in one piece during removal. A three-inch diameter core fits standard dispensers for convenient use.

Check surface compatibility and bonding needs

Because the rubber adhesive creates a stronger bond than painter's tape, test it on delicate or finished surfaces first. Verify that the .94 inch width and 60 yard length match the scale of your project. This product is not designed for clean-release painting applications.

Questions about this item

Will the rubber adhesive on the 201+ tape leave residue that needs cleaning later?

The rubber adhesive forms a stronger bond than painter's tape, so residue may remain and require a solvent or manual cleaning after removal.

What stops the .94 inch crepe paper from tearing when I pull a long strip?

The tape is designed to resist slivering, letting you pull a continuous piece across the full 60 yard roll without the paper shredding.

Does the 3 inch core get warm or make noise when the tape is unrolled continuously?

No, the core is a passive cardboard tube; unrolling produces only light mechanical sound and no measurable heat.
