Product identity

3M 2040 Scotch Solvent Resistant Masking Tape is a crepe paper tape with a rubber adhesive designed to withstand exposure to solvents. It comes on a three-inch core in a natural beige colour and is supplied new in a standard industrial roll.

Who it suits

Painters and technicians who need clean lines when using solvent-based coatings or cleaning agents will find this tape reliable. Users requiring a tape for prolonged outdoor exposure, high-temperature baking cycles or structural bonding should look at products engineered for those specific demands.

Capacity and headroom

The roll provides 55 metres of 24mm-wide tape, giving ample length for masking windows, trim or large panels in a single job. Very large commercial projects or continuous production lines will consume multiple rolls quickly, so plan accordingly for high-volume work.

Questions about this item

What surface should I have ready for the 24 mm wide crepe-paper backing to adhere to?

The rubber adhesive bonds to most clean, dry surfaces such as metal, glass, painted wood or plastic; test a small piece first to confirm clean removal on your specific substrate.

Will the 3-inch core fit the dispenser I already use for standard masking rolls?

Yes, the 3-inch diameter core matches the industry standard for hand-held and bench-top tape dispensers.

How can I check that the solvent resistance is holding up after I apply the tape?

After masking, expose a test strip to the solvent you plan to use; the beige crepe paper should not lift, curl or allow bleed-through at the edges.
