Rugged 2TB portable drive

The ADATA HD720 AHD720-2TU3-CBL is a 2TB external hard drive built for users who need reliable storage in harsh environments. Its IP68 rating and military-grade shock certification make it suitable for field work, travel and outdoor photography. The blue silicone casing absorbs impacts from drops up to 1.8 metres. Data stays protected whether the drive is submerged or covered in dust.

Compatibility checklist

The drive connects through a USB 3.0 interface and draws power from the host port. Verify that your computer provides a standard USB Type-A socket and enough bus current for a 2.5-inch mechanical drive. Supported operating systems include Windows XP through 8.1, Mac OS X 10.6 or later and Linux kernel 2.6 or later. No external power adapter is required or included.

Sustained workload behaviour

During long transfers the mechanical platters and USB 3.0 link settle to steady sequential throughput rather than burst speeds. The triple-layer construction and internal G-sensor park the heads if a sudden shock is detected while the drive is active. Heat dissipates through the silicone shell without a fan, so surface temperature rises gradually under continuous read-write cycles.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy a cable separately?

The package includes a USB 3.0 cable and a quick start guide, so no extra cable purchase is required.

Should I choose the 1TB or the 2TB version of the HD720?

The 2TB model provides twice the storage space for larger media libraries or backups while keeping the same rugged IP68 and 1.8 m drop protection.

How fast will the 2TB drive actually transfer files over USB 3.0?

Real-world speeds depend on the host controller and file types, but the USB 3.0 interface supports up to 5 Gbps theoretical bandwidth.
