LEGEND 960 1 TB Gen4x4 M.2 SSD

The ADATA LEGEND 960 is a 1 TB internal solid-state drive using a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface and the NVMe 1.4 standard. It delivers sequential read speeds up to 7,400 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,000 MB/s. The M.2 2280 form factor includes a black and gold heatsink for thermal management. It is built with 3D NAND flash and an SMI SM2264 controller for creative workloads and gaming.

Compatibility check for M.2 2280 heatsink drive

Verify that your motherboard or laptop has an M.2 slot supporting PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 with a 2280 key. Confirm physical clearance for the included heatsink, which adds height above the PCB. For PlayStation 5 installation, the console requires a drive with a heatsink and supports speeds up to 6,400 MB/s. Ensure your system BIOS is updated for NVMe 1.4 support if needed.

Thermals noise and power in typical use

The integrated heatsink uses a sandblasted surface and bronzing trim to dissipate heat effectively during sustained transfers. With no moving parts, the drive operates silently in desktops, notebooks, or the PS5. Power draw scales with PCIe Gen4 x4 activity and the SMI SM2264 controller. The 1,560 TBW endurance rating indicates long-term reliability under heavy write workloads.

Questions about this item

Does the ADATA LEGEND 960 1TB include the heatsink or do I need to buy one separately?

The drive ships with a black and gold heatsink already attached, so no separate cooler is required.

What does the 7400 MBps sequential read figure mean when the drive is installed in a PS5?

In a PS5 the drive reaches up to 6400 MBps, limited by the console's PCIe 4.0 implementation.
