Portable SSD for creators

The AGI EDM38 is a 1TB external solid-state drive with a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C interface. It delivers sequential reads up to 2050 MBps and writes up to 1800 MBps. Magnetic attachment lets it snap to MagSafe-compatible iPhones for direct ProRes 4K 120fps capture. The slim black enclosure is designed for mobile workflows.

Suits mobile video and photo workflows

Content creators who record ProRes 4K 60fps or 120fps on iPhone 15 Pro or newer will benefit from the sustained write speed and magnetic mount. Windows, Mac, tablet and smartphone users gain plug-and-play transfers of large 4K files. Users who need more than 1TB of capacity or who rely on legacy USB-A ports without an adapter should consider other options.

Deciding spec: USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface

The USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connection enables the quoted 2050 MBps read and 1800 MBps write ceiling. Host devices must support this standard to reach those rates; older USB 3.2 Gen 2 or USB 3.0 ports will limit throughput. Verify that your computer, phone or tablet provides a Gen 2x2 Type-C port before purchasing.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1TB or the 2TB version of the AGI EDM38?

The 1TB model provides up to 2050 MB/s read and 1800 MB/s write; the 2TB version shares the same USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface and magnetic attachment but may show different real-world throughput depending on capacity.

What does the 2050 MB/s read figure mean when I plug this drive into my laptop?

That is the maximum sequential read speed over USB 3.2 Gen 2x2; actual transfer rates depend on the host controller, cable quality, file sizes and operating system overhead.

How does the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface limit performance in practice?

The interface caps theoretical bandwidth at 20 Gbps, so sustained reads top out near 2050 MB/s and writes near 1800 MB/s provided the host port and cable both support Gen 2x2.
