Microphone type and connectivity

The AKG C151 is a plug-in electret condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern and a 3-pin XLR host interface. It is built for studio, broadcast and live sound applications where a compact, clip-on form factor is required.

Suited uses and limitations

This microphone suits engineers and musicians capturing vocals, piano, strings, horns, woodwinds, drums, percussion and guitar or bass amplifiers. It is not intended for users who need a wireless system, a USB connection, an omnidirectional or figure-8 pattern, or a large-diaphragm condenser for close vocal work.

Key specification for selection

The cardioid polar pattern combined with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and 1 kilo ohm impedance determines whether the C151 matches the source and preamp chain for the intended recording or reinforcement task.

Questions about this item

What stand thread size does the included H82 clip accept?

The H82 clip mounts on any standard 5/8-inch microphone stand thread.

Which step is most often missed when connecting the C151?

Engage the 3-pin XLR plug fully until it clicks; a loose connection causes hum or no signal.

When should the H82 clip be replaced?

Replace the clip if its spring tension weakens or the threads strip, otherwise the microphone can shift during use.
