Powered bookshelf speakers with Bluetooth

The Edifier R1280DB White is a pair of powered bookshelf speakers delivering 42 watts RMS. A 4-inch bass driver and 13-millimetre silk dome tweeter handle sound reproduction. The cabinets use solid MDF wood construction. Bluetooth allows wireless streaming from phones, tablets or computers.

Home listeners wanting digital and wireless inputs

These suit anyone connecting a TV, computer or turntable through optical or coaxial digital inputs, plus Bluetooth for portable devices. A supplied remote controls volume, power and input switching. Buyers who need more storage or builders who need a second card should look elsewhere. Buyers requiring analogue-only connectivity or a passive design will not be served by this model.

Optical and coaxial digital inputs decide

The presence of optical and coaxial inputs determines whether the speakers can accept a lossless digital signal from a television or computer. If your source only offers analogue RCA, the digital sockets remain unused. The 24-month parts and labour warranty covers the product in the USA and Canada.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 42 W version or look for a higher-wattage model?

The pair delivers 42 W RMS total, which is plenty for desktop or small-room listening at moderate volumes.

What does the 42 W RMS rating mean when I’m actually listening at my desk?

It means clean, undistorted output for near-field use; you’ll get full bass from the 4-inch drivers and clear highs from the 13 mm silk dome tweeters without strain.

Which inputs can I use and do any of them limit the audio quality?

You have Bluetooth, optical, coaxial and RCA — optical and coaxial carry lossless digital signals, while Bluetooth and RCA are analogue-friendly convenience options.
