SAS drive adapter for SATA controllers

This Aomoproing cable lets you attach a SAS hard drive to a motherboard or RAID controller that presents a SATA port but supports the SAS protocol. The SFF-8482 connector on the drive side mates with the combined data and power interface found on enterprise SAS disks. A separate 7 inch Molex 4 pin lead supplies the necessary power. It also functions as a standard SATA data and power cable for regular SATA drives.

Replaces a missing SAS backplane or HBA

Use this adapter when you have a SAS drive but your host only offers SATA connectors that are wired for SAS signalling. The jump is worth it if the controller explicitly states SAS drive support; without that support the drive will not be recognised. It does not add SAS capability to a SATA only controller and will not work with drives that require a full SAS wide port or dual port connection.

Installation is a matter of seating the SFF-8482 end onto the drive, the SATA 7 pin end onto the host port and the Molex plug into a power supply lead. The most frequent issue is connecting to a SATA port that lacks SAS support, which results in the drive not appearing in BIOS or the operating system.
