Questions about this item

What is the charging interface and what does it limit in practice?

The iPad 5 uses a USB Type-A charging interface. In practice this caps charging speed to the older USB standard, so it will not take advantage of newer USB-C power delivery rates.

What physical dimensions and mounting points does the 9.7-inch body require?

The 9.7-inch display dictates the tablet's footprint. It fits stands, folios and mounts made for the 9.7-inch iPad form factor; no other mounting pattern is compatible.

How is the nano-SIM installed for cellular use and what step do people miss?

Insert the SIM eject tool into the small hole on the side tray, pull the tray out, place the nano-SIM with the angled corner aligned, then push the tray fully back in until it clicks. The step people miss is powering the iPad off before ejecting the tray, which avoids a "No SIM" error on restart.
