Internal Blu-ray Combo Drive

The ASUS BC-12D2HT is an internal 5.25 inch optical drive that reads Blu-ray discs at 8X speed and writes DVDs at 16X. It supports BDXL media for up to 128GB capacity and M-Disc for long-term archival storage. The SATA interface connects directly to a standard motherboard port. A black bezel matches typical desktop aesthetics.

Compatibility Checklist

Verify that your chassis has a free 5.25 inch external bay and an available SATA data port on the motherboard. A spare SATA power connector from the power supply is also required. The drive operates as a bare unit without mounting rails or front-panel adapters included. Ensure your operating system includes drivers for SATA optical devices.

Build Integration

The drive slides into a standard half-height bay and secures with four M3 screws on each side. Its SATA data and power cables route to the motherboard and PSU respectively, leaving no need for extra controllers. BDXL and M-Disc support free you from relying solely on hard drives or cloud services for cold backups. E-Green technology reduces idle power draw by up to 50 percent.

Questions about this item

Does the ASUS BC-12D2HT include mounting screws or cables in the box?

The drive ships as a bare unit only; SATA data and power cables plus 5.25" mounting screws must be sourced separately.

Which write speed matters most for single-layer DVD recording?

The drive writes DVD+R at 16X and DVD-R at 6X, so choose media that matches the faster format for quicker burns.

What does the 128 GB BDXL figure mean for a single backup session?

A triple-layer BDXL disc holds up to 128 GB, letting you archive large projects on one piece of media.
