Slim USB 2.0 DVD writer for PC and Mac

This external slim drive connects through USB 2.0 and reads or writes CDs and DVDs on both Windows and macOS systems. It supports DVD±R at 8X and CD-R at 24X for everyday archiving or media creation. The compact black chassis measures .79" high by 5.59" wide and deep.

Disc Encryption software and drag-and-burn utility

Bundled software adds password-controlled encryption and hidden-file functions for sensitive data. A drag-and-burn interface reduces the burning process to three steps. No additional drivers are required for basic operation on supported operating systems.

Check USB port and disc format needs before ordering

Verify your device has a free USB 2.0 Type-A port or a compatible adapter. The drive does not read or write Blu-ray media. Buyers who need Blu-ray support or faster USB 3.0 transfer rates should consider a different model.

Questions about this item

Does the USB 2.0 interface on this ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U/BLK/G/A limit sustained write speeds compared to the drive's rated 8X DVD+R?

Yes, USB 2.0 maximum throughput is lower than the 8X DVD write rate, so the bus becomes the bottleneck during long burns.

How loud and hot does the tray mechanism get when the ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U/BLK/G/A runs all day?

The slim 0.79-inch tray drive stays quiet and cool under normal loads; no active cooling is fitted.

What maintenance or replacement will the ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U/BLK/G/A need later?

The tray-loading mechanism and laser pickup are the only moving parts; clean the lens occasionally and replace the unit if disc errors rise.
