Controls up to eight computers from one USB keyboard, mouse and dual-monitor console at 2560 x 1600 resolution
The ATEN CS1788 is an eight-port USB DVI KVM switch that lets administrators manage up to eight computers from a single keyboard, mouse and dual-monitor console. It supports Mac, PC and Sun platforms and provides twelve USB ports for peripheral sharing across all connected systems.
The switch delivers dual-link DVI video at 2560 x 1600 resolution for clear multi-monitor output. Units can be cascaded to three levels, allowing up to 73 switches to control 512 computers from the original console without adding extra displays or input devices.
Measuring 1.7 inches high, 6.3 inches wide and 17.2 inches deep at 6.17 lb, the appliance fits standard rack environments. Multi-view functionality lets up to four switches stack via standard USB cables for quad-view configurations where each computer uses multiple video cards.

Connect each computer to one of the eight DVI-I ports using DVI and USB cables, then attach a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and dual-monitor console to the console ports. Use standard USB cables to cascade up to three levels for a total of 73 switches controlling 512 computers.
The unit has no user-serviceable parts inside. Maintenance is limited to checking that DVI and USB cables remain firmly seated and dusting the 1.7-inch high chassis vents. If a port fails, the entire switch must be replaced.
The dual-link DVI resolution ceiling of 2560 x 1600 is the first hard limit; video signals above that resolution cannot pass through the switch regardless of cable length or computer performance.
