  • Dual 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports for high-speed host connectivity
  • Eight 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA ports expand storage capacity
  • 110 V power cord included for immediate operation
  • ATTO engineering delivers reliable Thunderbolt to SAS/SATA bridging

Dual-port 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 to 8-port 12Gb/s

This adapter connects two Thunderbolt 3 ports to eight SAS or SATA drives running at 12Gb/s. It is built for professionals who need high-speed external storage expansion from a single host connection. The unit ships with a 110V power cord for immediate desktop deployment.

Practical limits of the Thunderbolt 3

Total host bandwidth is capped at 40Gb/s across both Thunderbolt ports, so eight 12Gb/s drives cannot all run at full speed simultaneously. Users requiring sustained maximum throughput on every drive should consider a direct-attached SAS host bus adapter instead.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 version or a slower adapter?

The 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 interface matches the highest host bandwidth available on this adapter, so it will not bottleneck the eight 12Gb/s SAS or SATA ports.

What does the 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 rating mean when I connect eight 12Gb/s SAS drives?

The 40Gb/s host link provides enough aggregate bandwidth for all eight 12Gb/s ports to run simultaneously without saturation.
