Podcast microphone kit

The Audio-Technica AT2040 kit bundles a hypercardioid dynamic microphone with a stand, pop filter, headphones and XLR cable. It targets podcasters and streamers who want broadcast-style sound without assembling separate components. The all-metal construction is built for daily recording sessions.

Check your interface and gain

Verify that your audio interface or mixer provides an XLR input with enough clean gain for a dynamic microphone. The kit includes the cable, so no extra wiring is needed. Phantom power is not required for this microphone type. Ensure your recording software can monitor the input directly.

Consistent output during long sessions

The integrated shock mount and multi-stage windscreen suppress handling noise and plosives continuously, not just in short tests. Hypercardioid rejection keeps room tone steady even when you move slightly off-axis. The rugged metal body maintains alignment after repeated repositioning.

Questions about this item

What comes in the AT2040 kit and what else is needed to use it?

The kit includes the AT2040 hypercardioid dynamic microphone, a stand, pop filter, headphones and an XLR cable. You will need an audio interface or mixer with an XLR input and phantom power is not required for this dynamic microphone.

How does the hypercardioid pattern affect recording compared to a standard cardioid mic?

The hypercardioid pattern is more directional than cardioid, focusing tightly on the front while rejecting more sound from the sides, which helps isolate your voice in untreated rooms.

What does the built-in multi-stage windscreen do for close-up vocal work?

The nonwoven filter combined with foam mesh provides internal pop filtering, reducing plosives and breath noise so you can record close to the capsule without an external pop shield.
