8 Gbit Fibre Channel SFP

This Avago transceiver is an SFP module that operates at 850 nm and is rated for 8 Gbit Fibre Channel links. It plugs into a standard SFP cage on switches, directors or HBAs that support short-range fibre optics. The unit is supplied new and carries the manufacturer part number AFBR-57D7AMZ-QL.

Suits 8 Gbit short-range Fibre Channel

Network teams extending or repairing 8 Gbit Fibre Channel fabrics at 850 nm will find this module a direct fit. It is not intended for Ethernet-only ports, higher-speed Fibre Channel rates, long-reach single-mode links or form factors other than SFP.

850 nm wavelength decides fit

The 850 nm wavelength determines compatibility with multimode fibre patch cords and the maximum reach of the link. Verify that the host equipment specifies 850 nm optics at 8 Gbit before ordering.

Questions about this item

What speed does the 850 nm SFP interface support in practice?

The 850 nm SFP transceiver runs at 8 Gbit Fibre Channel speed over multimode fibre.

Which physical slot and fibre connector does this module require?

It fits a standard SFP cage and uses a duplex LC connector for 850 nm multimode fibre.

How is the transceiver installed, and what step is often missed?

Insert the module until it clicks, then remove the dust caps and connect the LC patch cables.
