Analog video digitiser for home archives

The AVerMedia C039 DVD EZMaker 7 connects VHS players, camcorders or other analogue sources to a computer through a USB 2.0 port. It accepts S-Video and composite RCA signals, allowing owners of ageing tape libraries to capture footage for long-term storage or online sharing. The device is aimed at hobbyists who want a straightforward path from analogue media to digital files without a complex capture card installation.

Bundled CyberLink editing and authoring suite

The package includes CyberLink PowerDirector 8 DE and PowerProducer 5 DVD on an installation disc. These applications provide timeline editing, one-click video refinement, DVD and VCD authoring with menu creation, and direct upload to YouTube and Facebook. They also output H.264 files formatted for iPod and PSP playback, so captured material can be polished and distributed without purchasing additional software.

Pocket-sized capture stick with legacy OS support

The compact stick plugs directly into a USB 2.0 socket and draws power from the bus, so no external adapter is required. Official driver support covers Windows XP, Vista and 7 in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions, matching the era of many analogue source devices. A minimum of 512 MB system memory is specified for standard-definition capture, while high-definition authoring requires a faster processor and at least 2 GB of RAM.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 2.0 cable need replacing after frequent use?

The supplied USB 2.0 cable is the only connection to the computer; treat it as a consumable and replace it if the connector loosens or the sheath frays.

What CPU requirement becomes the bottleneck during long H.264 capture sessions?

The box lists a minimum of Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 3000+ for high-definition authoring; sustained encoding will hit that processor ceiling first.

How warm does the pocket-sized capture box get when recording VHS tapes all afternoon?

The unit has no fan and draws power only from the USB 2.0 port, so it stays barely warm to the touch even during multi-hour sessions.
