8MP Varifocal Outdoor Dome

The AVI-8 8.0C-H5A-DO1-IR is an 8 megapixel outdoor dome camera with a 4.9-8.0mm varifocal lens. It captures 4K UHD video using a 1/1.8 inch CMOS sensor and supports H.264, H.265 and MJPEG compression. The unit connects via a 100BASE-TX RJ45 port and runs on standard network protocols including IPv4, IPv6, RTSP and DHCP.

Installers needing motorised zoom.

This camera suits installers who need remote zoom and focus adjustment on a 4K outdoor dome. It is not for buyers who require integrated microphone or speaker functions, or for sites that need a wider focal range than 4.9-8.0mm. The 90-day seller warranty also means it does not suit projects demanding a full manufacturer guarantee.

100BASE-TX network interface

The single specification that decides fit is the 100BASE-TX Ethernet link. The camera transmits all 8MP streams over a 100 Mbps RJ45 connection using CAT5e cabling. Recorders or switches must provide a compatible 100BASE-TX port; Gigabit-only ports without 100 Mbps negotiation will not pass traffic.

Questions about this item

Does the 8MP 4.9-8.0mm outdoor dome camera ship with a mounting bracket or a power injector, or do I need to buy those separately?

The unit is supplied as the camera body only; mounting hardware and a PoE injector or separate power supply are not included.

Should I choose the 4.9mm wide end or the 8.0mm narrow end of the varifocal lens for my install?

Use the 4.9mm setting for a wider field of view across large yards or car parks, and the 8.0mm setting when you need tighter detail on a specific entrance or corridor.

What does the 8MP 4K UHD resolution actually deliver once the camera is recording on my NVR?

You receive 4K UHD video streams encoded in H.264, H.265 or MJPEG at up to 8MP, giving sharp detail for forensic review over the 100BASE-TX link.
