Portable 500 GB USB 3.0 drive for PS5

This bus-powered 2.5 inch drive comes pre-formatted for PlayStation 5 so you can expand console storage without opening the case. It stores PS4 titles that run directly from the drive and holds PS5 games moved off the internal SSD. The aluminium chassis fits in a pocket and draws power from the USB port.

Pre-formatting removes setup steps

The drive arrives ready for the PS5 extended-storage workflow, letting you move PS5 games to the device in roughly three to five minutes per title. PS4 games launch straight from the drive, freeing the internal SSD for native PS5 releases. A blue LED shows read and write activity while you play or transfer.

Plug into the console USB port and format once

Installation is a single connection to a PS5 USB 3.0 port followed by the on-screen format prompt; no external power brick or case disassembly is required. The drive will not accept direct PS5 game downloads — titles must be moved from the internal SSD first. It is not suited for users who need more than 500 GB or who want to boot an operating system from the device.

Questions about this item

How often will the 2.5-inch drive inside this enclosure need replacement under normal use?

The 2.5-inch mechanical drive has moving parts that wear over time; plan to replace the unit after several years of daily gaming sessions.

What speed ceiling appears first when copying large PS5 titles continuously over USB 3.0?

Sustained transfers hit the 5.0 Gbps USB 3.0 interface limit before the drive itself saturates, so copy speeds plateau at that ceiling.

How much heat and noise does the aluminium chassis produce when the drive runs all day on PS5?

Bus-powered operation keeps heat modest and the aluminium body acts as a passive heatsink; only a faint seek noise is audible during heavy access.
