Avolusion Z1-S 500GB portable drive

The Avolusion Z1-S is a 500GB portable external hard drive with a USB 3.0 interface. It comes pre-formatted for immediate use with a PlayStation 5 console. The white 2.5-inch enclosure is bus-powered, so no separate power adapter is needed. A blue LED indicates data access activity.

Suits PS5 owners who want extra space for PS4 titles

This drive lets you play PS4 games directly from USB extended storage, freeing the internal SSD for PS5 games. PS5 titles must be moved back to the internal SSD before they can be played. Buyers who want to run PS5 games directly from an external drive should look at a different solution.

Plug-and-play setup with no tools required

Installation is as simple as connecting the USB cable to the console; the drive is ready to use without opening the system. The main limitation to remember is that PS5 games cannot be downloaded directly to this drive. They must be downloaded internally first, then copied over, which takes a few minutes per game.

Questions about this item

Does the drive need a separate power supply or does it draw power from the PS5 USB 3.0 port?

It is USB bus powered so the PS5 USB 3.0 port supplies all the power it needs; no separate AC adapter is required.

Will my existing PS4 games run directly from this drive on the PS5, or must they be moved back to the internal SSD first?

PS4 games can be played straight from the drive as USB extended storage; only PS5 titles must be copied back to the internal SSD before they can be launched.

How can I confirm the drive is operating at the advertised SuperSpeed USB 3.0 rate after I plug it in?

The blue LED flashes during data access, and the PS5 storage menu will list the device as USB extended storage, showing it is active on the 5.0 gbps interface.
