Cable purpose and fit

This seven-foot Category 6 patch cable connects a laptop, desktop or other network device to a wall outlet, modem or router. It is built for 100 and 1000BASE-T networks and suits home offices, hotel rooms or any location where a wired link is preferred.

Upgrade path and when it matters

Replacing an older Category 5 cable with this Cat6 link uses all four twisted pairs for greater bandwidth and reduced crosstalk. The improvement is worthwhile when the network equipment already supports gigabit speeds and the existing cable is the bottleneck.

Behaviour under sustained load

Stranded 24 AWG conductors and internal load bars keep plug alignment consistent during continuous data transfer. Gold-plated contacts rated at 50 microns resist corrosion, helping the cable maintain clean signal quality over extended use.

Questions about this item

Will the 7 ft Cat6 cable with RJ45 male ends reach my wall outlet from the desk?

The cable is 7 ft long and has RJ45 male connectors on both ends, so it will reach any wall outlet, modem, router or networking device within that distance from your computer.

Do I need a tool to seat the RJ45 plugs or do they just push in?

The RJ45 plugs are tool-less — push each connector straight into the port until the snagless latch clicks. The step people miss is not pushing far enough to hear the click, which leaves the link unseated.

Will the gold-plated contacts on the RJ45 ends need cleaning or replacement over time?

The 50-micron gold-plated contacts resist corrosion and wear, so they do not require periodic cleaning or scheduled replacement under normal indoor use.
