Single-access DVI-D extender

This Black Box ACU5501A-R4 KVM extender places a single computer up to 60 metres from its console over one CATx cable. It carries 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz DVI-D video, transparent USB 2.0 and stereo audio without compression. The package includes local and remote units, cables, power supplies and a mounting plate for either end.

CATx cabling and port layout

Each unit presents one RJ-45 port for the inter-unit link, one DVI-D connector and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The local side adds a USB Type-B uplink to the host; the remote side provides two USB Type-A ports for keyboard and mouse. A single CATx run up to 196 feet handles all signals, freeing desk space and removing the need for separate video, USB and audio cables.

Upgrade from short native cables

The extender replaces direct DVI and USB cables when the host must sit beyond standard cable limits, such as in a secure rack or another room. It is not suited for multi-user access, multi-head video or resolutions above 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz.
