What this cable does

Black Box Connect Basic CAT5e patch cables carry Fast Ethernet traffic for voice, data, audio/video and PoE signals. They are built to industry-standard requirements so installers get reliable performance without a premium price.

Practical limits of the 100 MHz CAT5e standard

The cable is tested to the CAT5e 100-MHz specification, which supports Fast Ethernet speeds and PoE delivery. It does not meet the higher bandwidth or crosstalk margins required for Gigabit or 10-Gigabit Ethernet runs.

Snagless molded boot protects the RJ-45 tab

A molded snagless boot covers the connector latch, preventing it from catching on adjacent cables and breaking off. This preserves the locking mechanism and provides strain relief for longer service life.

Questions about this item

Which length and colour should I pick for my patch panel?

Choose the length that reaches between your devices with a little slack, and select a colour that matches your cable-management scheme; the cable is sold individually so you can mix and match as needed.

What does the 100 MHz rating deliver on a live network?

The 100 MHz bandwidth meets the CAT5e specification, supporting Fast Ethernet speeds up to 100 Mbps and carrying voice, data, audio, video or PoE signals reliably.

How does the UTP construction and RJ-45 interface limit performance?

Unshielded twisted pair with standard RJ-45 connectors caps the link at CAT5e 100 MHz, so Gigabit Ethernet is not guaranteed and the cable is intended for Fast Ethernet and PoE applications.
