AlertWerks Photoelectric Smoke Detector

The AlertWerks EME1S2-005 is a photoelectric smoke detector designed for installation inside server racks and cabinets. It uses a light-scattering chamber that responds quickly to the large particles produced by smoldering fires common in electrical equipment. The unit mounts directly in the rack environment to provide early warning for critical infrastructure.

Practical limits of photoelectric detection

Photoelectric sensors excel at detecting slow, smoldering fires but react more slowly to fast-flaming fires that produce smaller particles. Dust, steam or insects inside a dense rack can trigger false alarms if the chamber becomes contaminated. The detector covers only the immediate rack area, so multiple units are required for full room protection.
