Connects a slimline SATA optical drive via USB 2.0 with an extra power cable for reliable operation
This adapter cable connects a 13-pin (7+6) Slimline SATA optical drive to a standard USB 2.0 Type-A port. It is built for users who need to read or write CDs and DVDs on a laptop or desktop that lacks an internal optical drive bay. The USB 2.0 interface provides transfer speeds up to 480 MB/s.
The cable includes an extra USB Type-A connector that supplies additional current for the drive. No separate power brick is required; simply plug both USB ends into the host computer. The Y-design supports 7200 rpm or higher hard disks and is backward compatible with USB 1.0 ports. Hot-swappable, plug-and-play operation means no driver installation is needed.
With no active electronics or moving parts, the adapter produces no audible noise and negligible heat during normal use. Power draw is limited to what the host USB ports can supply, so there is no extra strain on the system power supply. The PVC jacket and metal connectors keep the assembly lightweight and portable for occasional use.

The adapter uses USB 2.0, so the practical ceiling is 480 MB/s and sustained throughput will sit below that.
The Y-cable draws from two USB 2.0 A plugs to feed a 7200 rpm or faster Slimline SATA optical drive without an external brick.
The drive needs a 13-pin (7+6) Slimline SATA connector; the cable mates directly with that interface.
