USB-C to HDMI 4K adapter

This Boxwave adapter converts a USB-C source signal to an HDMI 2.0 display input at up to 4K 30Hz. It supports uncompressed digital audio pass-through including 7.1, 5.1 or 2-channel formats. The connection is uni-directional and requires no driver installation for plug-and-play operation.

Check port and cable specs

Your USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode or Thunderbolt 3 or 4 video output. Only USB 3.1 or higher and Thunderbolt cables rated for video transmission will work. The adapter does not function through hubs, KVMs, docking stations or switches.

Replaces basic video dongles

The adapter upgrades from simple cables that lack 4K 30Hz support or multi-channel audio pass-through. The jump is worthwhile when you need a direct Thunderbolt 3 or 4 to HDMI link for MacBook Pro 2016 or later, MacBook Air 2018 or later, iMac 2017 or later or iPhone 15 series devices.

Questions about this item

What is included in the box and do I need to buy a USB-C cable separately?

The box contains one USB-C Female to HDMI Male adapter. A USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3/4 cable that supports video transmission must be purchased separately if you do not already have one.

Which resolution and refresh rate should I choose for my monitor?

The adapter supports up to 4K at 30 Hz (3840x2160). It is also downward compatible with 2K at 60 Hz and 1080p at 120 Hz, so select the mode your display and cable support.

What does the 4K 30 Hz headline figure mean when I connect it to my laptop?

It means the adapter can deliver 3840x2160 resolution at 30 frames per second from a Thunderbolt 3/4 or DP Alt Mode USB-C port to an HDMI 2.0 display, provided the USB-C cable used also carries video.
