SFF-8643 to 4× SFF-8482 breakout cable

This 3.3 ft cable splits a single Mini SAS HD SFF-8643 host port into four SFF-8482 target connectors, each with an integrated SATA 7-pin data and 15-pin power adapter. It connects a SAS HBA or RAID controller directly to up to four SATA or SAS hard drives or SSDs. The assembly uses 30 AWG copper conductors for a flexible internal routing.

Sustained 6 Gbps per drive over copper

Each of the four breakout legs supports a data transfer rate up to 6 Gbps, matching the SAS 3.0 link speed of the SFF-8643 host interface. The copper conductors maintain signal integrity across the full 1 metre length under continuous I/O workloads typical of RAID arrays or JBOD enclosures. No active components are present, so latency and throughput remain consistent without external power for the cable itself.

Replaces SFF-8087 or discrete SATA cables

This breakout replaces a legacy SFF-8087 to SATA fan-out or multiple individual SATA data and power cables when migrating to a controller with an SFF-8643 port. The jump is worthwhile when consolidating four drive connections into one controller port while retaining per-drive SATA power delivery. It is not suitable for connecting an SFF-8643 port to a backplane that expects a native SFF-8643 target, nor for use with SAS drives that require a direct SAS power source.
