A 4 ft red extension cord with a C20 plug and C19 socket, built from 12 AWG SJT copper rated 20A at 250V for rack PDU and server power links
This four-foot red cord extends the reach between a C20 inlet on a PDU or UPS and the C19 plug of an existing server or switch cable. The heavy-duty 12 AWG copper conductors are rated for 20 A at 250 V, making it suitable for high-draw rack equipment rather than light desktop gear. UL Listed and CSA certified construction meets data-centre safety requirements. Builders needing a different connector format or a longer run will need a separate solution.
The SJT jacket is rated to 105 C and 300 V, so the cable stays cool when carrying typical rack loads well below the 20 A limit. Grounded three-conductor wiring prevents floating chassis potentials in standard rack deployments. No active cooling or fan noise is involved because the assembly is entirely passive. Installers who require in-line current monitoring must add a separate metered device.
At the full 20 A rating the 12 AWG conductors maintain voltage drop within specification for continuous operation in dense rack rows. The UL and CSA certifications (file E210037) confirm compliance for constant-duty cycles rather than brief peaks. Red colour coding simplifies phase tracing during long-term maintenance windows. Users planning loads above 20 A must select a larger-gauge alternative.

Plug the male C20 into the PDU, UPS or power source, then insert your existing cord into the female C19 socket; the step often missed is confirming the C19 side is fully seated before powering on.
Inspect the red SJT jacket and both IEC 60320 connectors periodically for cuts, heat discolouration or loose pins; replace the cord if any conductor insulation is damaged or the C19 socket grip weakens.
The 12 AWG copper conductors are rated 20 A / 250 V with a 105 °C cable temperature limit; sustained full-load operation will reach that thermal ceiling before the 300 V insulation rating becomes a factor.
