Practical Limits of the Cat5e Standard

Cat5e is rated for 1Gbps at 100MHz; this cable is tested to 350MHz for extra margin on Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T). It does not support 10GBASE-T speeds or the 250MHz bandwidth of Cat6 or the 500MHz of Cat6a. Maximum channel length remains 100 metres per the standard. The unshielded UTP construction offers no protection against strong EMI environments.
