  • 6 ft length keeps internal routing tidy
  • 12 Gb SAS interface supports high-throughput storage
  • Two cables included for multi-drive configurations

What this cable does

This CableCreation cable links a Mini SAS SFF-8643 host port on a motherboard or RAID controller to four SATA hard drives. The SFF-8643 connector is the host side, while the four 7-pin SATA plugs attach to the target drives. It is sold as a two-pack, each measuring 1.6 ft.

What the bundle changes

Having two cables in one pack lets you connect up to eight SATA drives from two separate Mini SAS ports without ordering a second time. The shorter 1.6 ft length keeps internal routing tidy in compact chassis, reducing clutter compared with longer alternatives.

Installing and common issues

The SFF-8643 plug inserts into the host port with a simple push until it clicks; the four SATA ends connect to drives in the usual way. A frequent mistake is trying to use this cable when the Mini SAS port sits on a backplane rather than the host controller — the pinout is reversed and the link will not work.

Questions about this item

Will the SFF-8643 connector or the four SATA plugs need replacing after repeated drive swaps?

The SFF-8643 host plug and four SATA target connectors are rated for standard mating cycles; no scheduled replacement is required unless physical damage occurs.

What throughput ceiling appears first when the 1.6ft cable runs at 12 Gb SAS speeds all day?

The 12 Gb SAS interface and 0.5 m length set the link ceiling; sustained loads hit that signalling limit before the cable itself degrades.

How much heat or power does the 1.6ft assembly add when four drives pull data continuously?

The passive copper assembly draws no extra power and adds negligible heat; only the drives and controller generate measurable warmth.
