A 3-foot shielded eSATA cable linking two eSATA ports for external SATA storage with sustained transfer performance
The CableMAX CA-2ESSQ is a three-foot shielded eSATA to eSATA cable built for external SATA II storage enclosures. It connects a host controller to an external drive using identical Type I 7-pin connectors on both ends. Triple shielding preserves sustained and burst transfer rates up to the SATA II specification. The cable targets users adding or replacing an external eSATA link.
This cable suits builders linking an eSATA host card to a single external SATA II enclosure at close range. It will not help users whose devices use USB or internal SATA ports, nor those needing a longer reach than three feet. Installations requiring right-angle plugs, locking latches or SATA III 6 Gb/s certified performance should look at other options.
The defining detail is the eSATA Type I 7-pin interface on both ends, which only mates with matching eSATA ports. If the host or enclosure uses a different connector — such as internal SATA, USB or a newer eSATA variant — this cable cannot be used.

Yes, both ends are eSATA Type I 7-pin connectors, so the enclosure and the host card or motherboard must each present that same port.
No, it is rated for SATA II 3 Gbit/s and carries the signal without loss, so the enclosure will run at its native SATA II rate.
Check the host controller or operating-system disk utility — it should report a 3 Gbit/s negotiated link rate for the attached enclosure.
