Outdoor Enterprise Access Point

The Cambium Networks cnPilot E500 is a controller-managed outdoor wireless access point built for enterprise campuses, public Wi-Fi, hospitality, education and industrial sites. It supports up to 256 concurrent client associations and up to 16 SSIDs with WPA-2 encryption, dynamic VLANs, DFS channels and access control lists. Zero-touch provisioning simplifies large-scale deployment across demanding high-density environments.

Pre-Installation Checklist

Verify that your network infrastructure includes a compatible controller for centralised management and that PoE power sourcing equipment is available for the dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. Confirm the mounting location provides suitable clearance for the integrated antennas and that local regulations permit operation on the required DFS channels. Ensure existing cabling supports Gigabit speeds to avoid bottlenecks on the wired backhaul.

Ideal Deployments And Limits

This unit suits organisations needing cost-effective, high-density outdoor coverage with mesh backhaul flexibility and controller-less roaming. It is not intended for buyers who require indoor-only hardware, installations without controller-based management, or environments where the maximum of 256 concurrent clients and 16 SSIDs would be exceeded.

Questions about this item

Does the box include a mounting kit or a PoE injector, or do I need to buy them separately?

The E500 is supplied as the access point only; mounting hardware and a PoE injector are not included and must be sourced separately.

Should I choose the 2.4 GHz radio or the 5 GHz radio for the mesh backhaul link?

Either radio can serve as the dedicated mesh backhaul; the other radio remains free for client access on the remaining band.

What does the 256 concurrent client figure mean when the E500 is deployed on a campus?

It means a single E500 can maintain active associations for up to 256 devices simultaneously across its 16 SSIDs.
