Carbide square end mill with a 0.375 in diameter and 0.5 in length of cut for aluminum milling
This Cleveland C60488 is a two-flute carbide square end mill designed for milling aluminium and similar non-ferrous materials. The uncoated 0.375 in diameter cutter has a 0.5 in length of cut and an overall length of 2 1/2 in. It suits machinists and fabricators who need a sharp, rigid tool for slotting and profiling work on manual or CNC mills.
Replacing a worn high-speed steel end mill with this carbide version gives longer edge life and higher cutting speeds in aluminium. The jump is worth it when production volumes increase or when the workpiece material hardens, causing rapid HSS wear. The straight shank matches standard 3/8 in tool holders, so no holder change is required for the swap.
The 3/8 in shank drops directly into a collet or end-mill holder without adapters. Tighten the holder evenly to keep runout low; excessive runout chips the carbide edges quickly in aluminium. Ensure the workpiece is rigid and use appropriate chip evacuation, as the non-coolant-through design relies on external flood or mist coolant to clear chips from the 0.5 in flute length.

The tool has a 3/8 in shank diameter, so it fits standard 3/8 in collets or end-mill holders without an adapter.
Clamp the 3/8 in shank only, keeping the 0.5 in length of cut clear of the holder jaws; over-clamping onto the flutes is the common error.
Replace it when the two flutes show visible wear or chipping that affects cut quality in aluminium; no re-coating service is offered.
