A USB 2.0 digital microscope offering 40 to 1000x magnification with a 2MP sensor, eight adjustable LEDs and a metal stand for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android OTG devices
The Corn Electronics 40-1000x USB 2.0 Digital Microscope captures still images and video at up to 1280 by 1024 resolution. It connects through a USB 2.0 interface and includes eight adjustable LEDs for illumination. The focus range spans 32 to 100 millimetres. It works with Windows 7, 8, 10, Mac OS 10.5, Linux, Chrome OS, Raspberry Pi and Android devices that support OTG. It does not support iOS devices.
Optical magnification runs from 40x to 1000x. At the low end the device suits larger specimens such as coins, stamps or circuit boards. At the high end it can resolve fine structures, though the 2 megapixel sensor limits detail when images are enlarged. Frame rate peaks at 30 frames per second at 600 lines of brightness; higher magnification or lower light will reduce the rate further.
The USB 2.0 link caps transfer bandwidth, so sustained high-resolution video may drop frames. Snap and zoom buttons function only on Windows with the supplied Amcap software; Mac users rely on Photo Booth or Quick Camera, while Android users need a third-party app such as CameraFi. Linux and Chrome OS work with standard UVC drivers but offer no hardware button control.
