Connects 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA or IDE hard drives and optical drives to a computer via USB 2.0 for data access and recovery
This Corn Electronics cable converts 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch SATA or IDE PATA hard drives to a USB 2.0 connection. It also supports 5.25 inch optical drives such as CD ROM DVD and RW units. The adapter draws power from an external supply that is not included in the package.
The adapter suits technicians retrieving files from older desktop or laptop drives and users accessing optical media on modern machines without internal bays. It is not for builders who need internal drive installation or anyone requiring the faster throughput of a USB 3.0 native interface.
Connection order matters: attach the 4 pin power cable to the drive and mains first then connect the SATA or IDE data cable before plugging the USB 2.0 end into the host. The 62 cm USB cable and 36 cm SATA lead give reasonable reach. Forgetting the master jumper on IDE drives or skipping the external power step are the most common reasons the drive fails to appear.
