Capacity and interface

The Crucial X9 Pro CT4000X9PROSSD9 is a 4TB external solid-state drive with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface delivering up to 1050 MBps sequential read and write speeds. It uses an anodized aluminum body with a rubberized soft-touch base and carries an IP55 rating for water, dust and sand resistance. Hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption and password protection are built in.

Who it suits and who should look elsewhere

Creative professionals and mobile users who need fast, rugged portable storage for large media libraries across Windows, Mac, Android, iPad and Linux will benefit from the durable design and cross-platform compatibility. Buyers who require more storage than 4TB or who need sustained throughput beyond the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface limit should consider other solutions.

Deciding specification

The single specification that decides fit is the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface capped at 1050 MBps sequential read and write; if your workflow demands higher sustained bandwidth, this drive will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface on this 4TB drive work with my older USB 3.0 ports?

Yes, the drive is backward compatible and will operate on USB 3.0 ports, though transfer speeds will be limited to the older port's maximum capability.

How can I confirm the 1050 MB/s read and write performance after connecting the CT4000X9PROSSD9?

Run a benchmark tool such as CrystalDiskMark or Blackmagic Disk Speed Test; sequential results approaching 1050 MB/s indicate the drive is performing as specified.

Does the Crucial X9 Pro 4TB package include a USB-C to USB-A cable for legacy ports?

The drive ships with a USB-C to USB-C cable; a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter must be purchased separately if your device only has Type-A ports.
