What this converter does

The D-Link DMC-G01LC connects a 10/100/1000 Mbps copper port to an SFP slot for fibre uplinks. It suits network teams extending LAN links over multi-mode or single-mode fibre up to 6.21 Mile. The desktop unit needs an AC adapter and provides one RJ-45 port plus one SFP slot.

Behaviour under sustained load

Switching capacity reaches 2 Gbps with a 256 Kbit packet buffer. Forwarding rates are 14,880 pps at 10 Mbps, 148,800 pps at 100 Mbps and 1,488,000 pps at 1000 Mbps using cut-through mode. Auto-negotiation and flow control keep each port matched to line speed during continuous traffic.

The deciding specification

One RJ-45 port and a single SFP slot mean this converter handles exactly one fibre link. Buyers needing multiple fibre connections or managed features such as VLANs or SNMP must choose a different device.

Questions about this item

How much power does the DMC-G01LC draw when it runs continuously?

The unit ships with an AC adapter and has no fan, so it runs silently with minimal heat output during all-day operation.

What SFP module do I need before the DMC-G01LC will link up?

You must supply a 100BASE-FX or 1000BASE-X SFP — either multi-mode or single-mode — because the converter has one empty SFP slot and no built-in transceiver.

Will the DMC-G01LC negotiate speed with my older 100 Mbps switch?

Yes, the RJ-45 port supports 10/100/1000Base-TX with auto-negotiation, so it will fall back to 100 Mbps full- or half-duplex automatically.
