USB magnetic stripe reader for three-track cards

This USB credit card reader captures data from tracks one, two and three on magnetic stripe cards. It connects directly to a host device through its USB interface and uses visible light scanning. The unit ships in black and is intended for point-of-sale environments that need reliable swipe transactions. No software development kit is included with the hardware.

Suited for retail counters

The device fits businesses that process magnetic stripe payments and want a simple plug-and-play peripheral. It does not support chip or contactless reading, so merchants who require EMV or NFC acceptance should consider a different terminal. Customisation options are available from the manufacturer for specialised deployments.

Three-track magnetic stripe capture via USB

The defining capability is the ability to read all three magnetic tracks through a single USB connection. This determines whether the reader matches a payment workflow that relies on full stripe data rather than chip or tap methods.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Deftun MSR123 USB card reader, and what step is often missed?

Plug the USB connector into the host device; the reader is recognised as a keyboard input device with no driver installation required, but you must ensure the active application has a text field focused before swiping a card.

What maintenance or replacement will the MSR123 need over time?

The magnetic read head and rollers accumulate debris from cards; clean them regularly with a cleaning card or alcohol swab, and replace the unit if read errors persist after cleaning.

What limit appears first during sustained, high-volume swiping with the MSR123?

The USB keyboard emulation and visible-light sensor impose a practical throughput ceiling; rapid successive swipes can exceed the host's input buffer, causing missed or duplicated track data.
